I bought a Maxtor Central Axis for its advertised media server capabilities, but no matter where I put my mp3 files, my UPnP player (Soundbridge M1001) sees the MSS mediaserver just fine, but never any media at all. I've placed the files in their folders in the "Our Music" folder, in the "My Music folder on a shared "folder" I created, and even put them en masse, unseparated by folders into the roots of these shared "folders". Of course, since then, I've thoroughly read many posts in these forums concerning serving media with this and similar drives, and I'm not seeing any specific instructions on persuading the media server on the NAS to operate as advertised, but mostly folks saying that it simply doesn't work.
Does anyone know of any way of getting the media server to work like it says on the box, and have media files accessible fromUPnP players?
Thanks for your time!

I know this is an old thread, since I have found a work around, and it is still a problem at this point, I think it is worth put it here.
The webpage for configure mediaserver is not working, here are the work arounds:
To cleanup mediaserver database, type the following to your web browser:
http://central_axis_ip/share/share_upnp_db_cleanup
To refresh mediaserver database, type the following to your web browser:
http://your_central_axis_ip/share/share_upnp_refre
You need to refresh your mediaserver db before your PS3 will see it.
I am not sure if this work around works for Shared Storage II.
Cheers!

For the MSS2
with original firmware 3.1.28 and OpenMSS 3.1.28:
/share/share_upnp_db_cleanup.asp
yields: "Media server failed to cleanup your database. Please try again." if you don't have upnp enabled, and if I do have it enabled, but that could be because I just turned it on and the db has just been created, will post again in a few weeks after I leave it on.
and for both the original and open 3.2.28
/share/share_upnp_refresh.asp
works fine with the old ps3 ;-) (before SONY decided to make everything not backwards compatible - not that I am sore about that or anything).
