Replacing HD in MSSII; Can anyone tell me how?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

My MSSII 500 Gb just finished! Clicking.. and clicking. After 3 years work.

So, could anyone tell me how to replace this disk!?

On a forum I did found an easy way to replace the MSSI disk.

http://openmss.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=773

Is there an easy way to replace this HD ?

I hope anyone can help me.

I did succeed in carefully opening the case, so I'm able to replace it. But how to let it work?

please help...

Hi,

Thanks EasyUser !

I did know already this link.

It is far to complicated, and not easy to understand,

anyway.... for me!

OK, I do have Knoppix 6.2, I'll study again this link!

Is'nt there a more easy way to go?

Unfortunately, there is no easier way to do that.  I did once following this instruction, it is easier than you think.  If you run into any problem, post back and I might be able to help you out.  External dock will make it a bit easier.

Re: Replacing HD in MSSII; I can tell you how! (-Done!) One thing to clear......

[ Edited ]

Hi

OK!

Sofar, I did succeed in replacing the disk YES!

I did format a new 1TB  disk with an external Hama SATA Docking Station (!) - with PartitionMagic 8.0 to

(The "x" represents "a", "b", or .... etc. - for me it was /dev/sdd1 and /dev/sdd2)

/dev/sdx1 258,8 Mb ext3 *boot

/dev/sdx2 258,9 Mb ext3

/dev/sdx3 258,9 Mb swap

/dev/sdx4 Extended

/dev/sdx5 517,8 Mb ext3

/dev/sdx6 rest-of-the-disk ext3

Then I did mount the original image edamame.3.5.74.img with Knoppix 6.2 Bootable DVD

(You can download the latest image from Seagate, first you have to extract it in Linux, or with Knoppix Live-DVD)

These are the commands to mount:

(The "x" represents "a", "b", or .... etc. - for me it was /dev/sdd1 and /dev/sdd2; choose carefully the disk)

(And be sure to start in the directory with the image in it)

dd if=edamame.3.5.74.img of=/dev/sdx1 bs=1024k

dd if=edamame.3.5.74.img of=/dev/sdx2 bs=1024k

Replaced the old-disk and powered-up.

And I did reset the Unit

All lights green

Did set my PC to automatic DHCP

Find the IP adress

Did setup the Web page; network-settings also..

reset my PC to manually etc....

All works fine, updated MSSII to 1 Tb !

One problem:

It seems not yet possible to see the files in the folders in Central-Axis; I can login correctly.

OK, there has been a change, because my newly MSSII has few data on it yet.

Passwords etc. correctly....

After opening the first folder - "Alfredo" or the "Public" one -

it says:

Connecting. Please wait.......

This should take about 3 seconds.

And I still have to wait......

What is left to be done ?

I hope you can tell me

Update 21-05-2010:  Solved !
