Hi All,
I just installed the Shared Storage II 1TB NAS drive on my Win7 laptop and installed the EasyManage program from the CD and I got a message the EasyManage program stopped working. As a result, it cannot see the MSS II drive that is attached to my wireless modem. Also, I am unable to update the firmware.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

are there any error codes blinking on the NAS or is it just the maxtor software no longer working??
you may try to run it in compatibility mode or reinstall the software if you don't have any blinking lights which usually indicate error conditiions (but not always)
if worse comes to worse... there are some instructions on this forum about how to recover data even if you were using the whole 1TB of storage, but it usually requires a desktop pc with at least 2 sata connectors and an IDE or 3rd sata connector to have a place to send the data to.
start with the software... try the unit on a different PC (xp pro 32bit) and if you still have issues then you may have to disassemble the unit and try to recover your data per the KNOPPIX thread.

Thank you for your reply…
The “EasyManage Program has stopped working” is literally the pop up message I get. There are 2 actions I can take… 1) Search for a solution on the internet (or something close to this) or 2) close the program. No blinking lights (on the NAS drive), no other pop up messages, no error codes, no other clues or suggestions, nothing.
I have not run it in compatibility mode (don’t know how), but I have removed/reinstalled the program 3 times already. Also, this was a new installation right from the box. Never had a chance to copy data to it, and my laptop never “saw“this drive on my wireless network (it’s connected to my Linksys E3000 wireless modem via RJ45 cable). I will give it a try with my iMac tonight and hope it can see it on my home network.
Do you think there is a software compatibility issue, where my Win7 Home 64 bit is not reading the program?
I have not tried to connect it directly to my computers via the USB port, because I do not have the appropriate cable, but will look to buy one soon.
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
Unfortunately, the software is not supported on Windows 7. You can still use the product, but you would have to manually map the drive. This link may help.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

To run the program in compatibility mode, right click the icon and choose properties. Go to the compatibility tab and enable the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Try the several options to see if it works.
Alternatively you can upgrade your MSSII to a Central Axis through the software on the downloads page for the MSSII. The Maxtor manager which is available for Central Axis drives with that works fine on Win7 x64 enterprise.

I was suspicious that there was a compability problem with Win7. At least there is still hope. Thank you both for your suggestions. Will try it tonight and see what happens.
