Hi petrowe,
Are you using a Mac or a PC?
Is the error happening on the same file? Can you copy that file to the Desktop?

Nice to call.
Yes the system is PC. Have ever seen that message before this time? The file is a little hard to find because it is apart of large database of itunes songs. Also I notice that I have login to the hard drive connection every time. I would it to be auto seen I mount the hard drive already to the computer.
Side question: Do you know a way I can change the defualt files for the itunes data. I would like the software go to the external hard drive for the file links

OK, some questions first:
Is the library is on the Shared Storage unit?
Can you try copying the songs to a folder on the desktop to see if you get an error then?
Also, what is the exact error message from iTunes?
As for the share asking for a password, that it how the private shares work. If you don't need the password, the easiest solution is to set the share to "public via the web interface.
More itunes info
Moving the iTunes Library but I would not do this until we figure out the error you are getting.

No, I haven't seen that error before. That's why I was wondering if it happened outside of iTunes as well.

Actually, by "public" I mean no username and password is needed to connect to the share. So anyone on your _local_ network can get to the files. The Shared Storage isn't accessible via the Internet.
So to remove the username and password from the share:
Connect to the "Web Administration" page using your EasyManage or QuickStart software
Go to the "Shared Folders Management"
Click on Modify
There should be a button labeled "Public" for which ever share you are using. Click on it.
For more info, see the user's guide:
http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/maxtor/en_us/do
specifically page 46
Now try and reboot and see if you can get to the share without a username and password.

Okay, being a long-time user of iTunes, here's what I would do.
1. Change your iTunes Library location to your desired root path. For example:
//<External HDD> /iTunes/
2. File --> Library --> Consolidate Library
This will move your entire library to one specific place. This should do the trick.
3. Relax. ![]()

I had everything on my maxtor shared storage ii. had the same issues of itunes connection kept breaking. all of a sudden the maxtor shared storage would not connect anymore because of a defective controller. now I'm stuck all my data is on the drive.
with the price of internal 1.5 tb coming down to around $100 recommend you move everything to that internal drive while you can still access your maxtor shared storage. you can then make that internal drive public on your local network so any system on your network can access the library. no more broken connections!
