OK, I just got a maxtor shared storage ii box and set it up using the management CD in the box.SO far so good.
Now, how do I put files on the silly thing, and how do I access it from other computers?
The software and webpage admin tool seem to only do admin stuff.
I have created a couple of user accounts, but I can't figure out how to access the box from another computer! If I put in the IP address, it won't accept anything but the admin passsword (which logs me back in to the admin page).
Unfortunately, there is no documentation in the box, and the pdf on the CD talks about setting up the box initially, but seems to be useless about how to actually use the thing.

Hopefully you also created some folders...
Folders such as 'Music', or 'Pictures', are commpn. Let's say you have created a Music folder, and also managed the user account files to modify the access rights.
From the PC that you have been installing your drive, you should see the folders in "My Network Neighborhood" (or places).
Now you can drag and drop files wher you want.
To access from other PC's and other users - (map a drive)...
let's say Mike has an account. Mike would map a drive in his "My Computer". Pick a drive letter (I like to set up simple networks / drives by first letter in names = m for Mike as an example). Remember Network access begins with 2 slashes then name of drive, then shared folder. Easy one, "Public", everyone should have access... Map: "P" \\DRIVENAME\Public
Here you may have named your new drive "Maxtor1" so the path would reflect the correct name in the path I gave above. Next map a drive: "M" \\maxtor1\mike and if given he will need his password here.
Thats it. Hope this helps!

Thank you.
With your input, I have figured out how to access the shared folder, but I still can't figure out how to create new folders or to get users to actually log in to a non-public account/folder.
Not to sound rude, but is this kind of simple stuff covered in documentation somewhere, or are we just supposed to know this magically?

Depending on your O/S you should be able to Search for Computers using the IP address or name using Windows Explore under Network Neighborhood (XP Pro) then Explore the Found location. If you set your Workgroup on the Central Axis to the same as the Computers it is easier to find. Once you connect to the Shared folder it should work the same as any shared location for creating new directories.
If you want to create new shared folders, separate for Public, that is done through the Units administration Setup. The how-to info is on the CD or under Seagate documentation in the "Maxtor Central Axis User Guide for Windows.pdf" or MAC.
