750 GB Momentus show wrong size and can't install win7 to it.

Hi All,

Here's my problems, I got the 750 GB 2rd generation momentus XT 6gb/s hybrid drive.

Took out my old ssd drive and replaced it with the hybrid.

It didn't show up in "my computer" so I had to format it in "disk manager." I did't parititon it, did a full format with the full capacity.

Now it shows as 698 GB but when I right click on it and look in properties it says 741 GB of free space, which seems to be the correct size, not 698 GB.

I deleted the volume and reformatted it, making sure I was using the full volume and still got the same issue. I've just installed a 2 TB WD disk two weeks earlier into the same computer, used the same proceedure. No problems.

Why does it show two different size?

Furthermore, when I try to install win7 it says the something like "this software can not be install on this computer's hardware." But I've been running windwons 7 on the old SSD drive for years now.

Any solutions???

Please review this knowledge base article for information about the discrepancy in drive capacity:

I'd like to help you get the installation issue resolved. Please provide me with the exact wording of the error message you receive when you try to install it.

Re: 750 GB Momentus show wrong size and can't install win7 to it.

You are locked up in a loop mate, download Gparted burn it to a CD, boot with it and delete all partitions, then set the file table to MS, when it's finished you will be able to set up Windows like normal again.
