Failed test- do I really need a new drive?

Can it really be that my hard drive is failing that is not even 2 years old??

My Lenovo came with a ST9500325AS, and recently failed the targeted read test and the smart short shelf test. Of all the laptops that I have owned, I have never had to replace a drive- and it seems I now must. My laptop is out of warranty- does that mean I am SOL and just have to buy a replacement for this drive?

Could I have done something that caused this? Seems the first failure reading happened in Dec (just noticed it yesterday).

Any help or suggestions....

1. use the warranty checker to see if the drive is still under warranty.

2. if it fails Seatools, you can get it replaced.
