Good Morning!

I cloned my existing W7 (64 bits HP) onto a 320 GB XT, in my desktop. After that I did the AHCI tweak on the registry and changed the BIOS to AHCI mode. Nevertheless, the PC will not boot in this situation, but only with "Native IDE" in the BIOS.

My question is: How important is AHCI really for the performance of the XT?  In other words: Is AHCI absolutely essential or does the XT also work satisfactorily in "Native IDE" mode? Or MUST I do a virgin W7 installation??

This must be a very difficult question :-)  Anyway, the XT seems to work fine and I don't need hot-swapping.

You need AHCI mode to get the NCQ activated.

Highly recommend to change to AHCI if possible, and I beleive there are walk-around to change to AHCI mode without re-install the OS.

PS. NCQ stands for Native Command Queuing
