I have a 09 ThinkPad X200 and I want to upgrade my drive to Momentus XT 750G hybrid.
The old and new drives are:

When I use EZ Gig IV to clone drives, it says "copying drives with different block sizes is not supported"
When I use Seagate DiscWizard to clone,if I select "automatically", it sais "destination disk is too small", it seems that only the 8G SSD part was calculated. When I select "manually", the copy starts but after it locks partition C and reboots, it says "ERROR: Disc not found", as shown below.

So how can I clone my old drive with Win7 and Ubuntu 11.10 to new Seagate hybrid?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

I believe you won't get it to happen, problem is you are trying to use an O/S that has never seen an SSD drive before, so the full instruction set for the SSD to work isn't available, I tried this a while ago and I got the same result you have.

Hi, Y,
I used Acronis True Image 2010 to clone my drive this week - no problem. Yes, the latest version is 2012 - I'm behind the times.
What operating system are you using? From the looks of the old drive I would say Windows XP. The reason I ask is that Windows 7 Disk Manager allows you to extend your partition size by the amount of the unused space on the new XT.

Never clone if you want reliability.

I had this issue before do not clone! just save it to image then restore it from image should be fine..

The Momentus XT drive appears to the OS as a normal hard drive. It has no knowledge of the SSD component. The SSD component is handled entirely by and within the drive itself.
It may be impossible to properly clone the Windows 7 (also Vista, unsure of XP) install from the old drive to the new drive. Most drives until recently were 512K sector drives, while the Momentus XT is a 512e sector drive. Cloning from a legacy drive to a 512e drive will break WGA, crippling Windows. Before attempting a clone, first ensure your old drive is a 512e drive.

I have cloned W7-64 drives twice now, and have had NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!! Used Acronis 2010 and XT 500 drives.
I don't understand why WiseDrive keeps saying this... Unless the SSD is only written to during an OS load?
But then why does mine work so good?
I believe we all want to know!!!

It is technically impossible to know what is previously on the source drive that is being cloned that might be incompatible with the new target drive.
Under such circumstances --- neve clone, always do a fresh install is a conservative method that is likely to produce a good result.
Unless you wish to be the master authority on compatibility of the set of all possible drivers, settings, malware, and the new install, NEVER CLONE.

You have to come up with a better answer than that.....
Cloning drives has been around for years, and I've not had any issues with it....
I see no reason why a procedure that worked successfully is suddenly not correct....
If what you say is correct, then I should have encountered multiple issues....
I often clone data drives to copy mass quanities of data for multiple locations.... NO ONE has ever had an issue with this....

Frequent unprotected sex with strangers have also been around for centuries. That makes it a good idea for you too?
