Re: I have the 750GB XT2, so ask away

Hey Jan,

I agree with you, If seagate already have your adress and everything, they should give you one just for testing.

Re: I have the 750GB XT2, so ask away

All of the reviews were based on the new drive only..... And most of them were taking advantage of the 6GB interface..

YES, If I had a new laptop with 6Gb interface, I wouldn't care about how it worked on an 'Old' 3Gb interface....

BUT....

Thats how Seagate marketed this drive!!!   As a 'Hot Rod' for existing systems, and I liked the results so much after the first one, that I bought 3 more!!!

We need a real world comparison.....   And we aren't getting it...

Apples to Apples comparison Please!!!   Not Oranges to Apples comparison!!!

I've got 4 of the Momentus XT 500Gb drives, and haven't had issues with them as adrive OR Raid 0 pair!!!

I would think I would be a great "Repeat Customer"  But I'd like to see some comparisons that relate to how I use the product...

Am I Wrong for asking such a basic question?????

Re: I have the 750GB XT2, so ask away

I am using the drive on the SATA 3gbs interface, but have no obvious way to give a repeatable benchmark that I am satisfied with for now.

Though I can definitely say the new version appears faster.

Hey,

Now that we are all aware of potiential not precise number, maybe you could put up some number even if they are not exactly ok. I'm sure Jan would like it. I'm sure he also noticed that you said that it was performing real good on your setup.

Here is my problem:

I have precisely 1 Momentus XT 500, and 2 XT2 750s.

The 500 and 750 are in different machines (having been moved around for testing).

In order to come close to a fair test, I would have to have both benched on a single machine.

Then there is the larger issue --- that boot times are not a good indicator --- since on many modern machines -- boot only happens less than 1 time per week.

Then how do I structure a test that reflect actual usage?

The only way to do that is actual loads of applications / usage that gets frequent use.

That would be, in my case, parts of the MS Office suite --- but not all.

Plus the most frequent usage is different browsers.

For a gamer, it would be a totally different suite of apps that need to be tested.

Give me some better ideas than the videos already posted by Seagate.

What about you pick your favorite review and just redo some of the test and post the number here. Jan seem to want any number with SATA2 interface.

I've got the XT2 running in a 2010 17" Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.2 and 7 x64 SP1 via Bootcamp.  Blazingly quick, once I got AHCI running in Windows.  Not had any issues so far as other Mac users but then again I primarily use Windows and try not to sleep/ suspend my OS as a rule.
