the replacement drive came with sd22, while the one i originaly bought had sd23 already. so that might also be a indication that it is reurbished. i'm not satisfied with that either, but as long as it works i won't complain...

2. Lenovo x201t
3. Windows 7 Professional 64bit
4. Frequent freezing, mouse stops moving, nothing responds, have to restart. Also occasionally I will get a blue screen, especially after a sleep.
5. 500GB, SD23 Firmware
I'm glad i found these posts, i kept thinking there was something wrong with the laptop firmware instead but could never reproduce these issues on the slower oem hd.

4. Freezing computer. Now will not recognize hard drive on boot up. Spins up, stops (spins down quickly) every 22-25 seconds. When placing in USB enclosure it spins up for 20 seconds and then spins down completely and is off. The computer does not recognize it at all. I have used 3 different enclosures with the same result. In short, HDD is complete failure after 3 months use.
5. 500GB Momentus XT ST95005620AS Unknown Firmware (never updated)
Very disappointed in Seagate. Unlikely to buy or recommend based on this experience.

After more troubleshooting... I have not been able to get it detected by any means. I burned a bootable firmware flashing CD, but with the drive attached to SATA, the computer will not boot (from CD or otherwise) With the drive detached, the computer boots and will boot to the firmware flashing CD, but if I plug in the HDD at this time, it starts a reboot cycle as soon as I detect for hard drives to flash.
Very frustrating. I will attempt to contact technical support and post my progress.
Even if I do get a replacement, I still don't think this drive will be useful to me at all. I won't be able to trust it. I think I'm moving back to WD's from now on.

After updating to SD23 and uninstalling lenovo thinkpad tool box it was more or less quite regarding blue screens. I got some application crashes (excel i.e.) while closing them but thats all.
this morning after surfing around using chrome I got a bluescreen. this is not really funny and not really professional from seagate. I dont feel safe anymore with this drive, especially momentus xt.
tomorrow I will do a diskcopy from my momentus xt to a corsair ssd. hope this will be more stable - which isn't a great deal IMO.
will report back ...

Have you tried drives with SD23?
(If you already said so, sorry about that. I tried to read the posts from you that I could find.)

Hi all,
just new to board. Wish I had found it before I purchased two of the XT 500Gb disks. My experience has pretty much mirrored everyone else's. My setup is
ASUS P755D-E-Premium m/b
2 x Momentus XT 500GB HD (SD23)
Windows 7 Pro x64
Drives connected to Intel SATA controller
Symptoms: Drive seems to hang/lockup at random intervals for anywhere from 3-20 seconds. More noticeable when playing games like LOTRO and DDO.
When I first installed the disk I followed my normal method of duplicating a non system drive, that is, attach the drive and just copy one drive to the other. It just contained some games and music/video's. A simple file copy should have been fine.
Now I have some success since reformatting the problem drive and setting the disk type to BASIC. Initially it was DYNAMIC. I then used Seagates/Acronis Diskwizard to clone fhe disk between the two drives.
Since doing this the drive has worked like a charm, no lockups/delays/hangs on the drive. If you are having issues it might pay to check your if the disk is configured as DYNAMIC and if so try setting it to BASIC, though you'll have to reformat the drive as you can't seem to go from DYNAMIC to BASIC without losing data. I'm not saying this will fix your issues, but it may, it did for me.

Same here:
1. Laptop
2. Apple Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2009 (5,4)
3. OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.4 +
4. Momentus XT 500GB ST95005620AS firmware SD23
Frequent freezing, also sometime the drive is not recognized.
What's doing Seagate for our problems?

I am not able to copy a disk image to my Momentus XT with any method I can find. It is recognized but will not boot as if the MBR is missing. I tried Ghost 15, creating Windows 7 recovery disk with DVD image of original HDD, etc. I have formatted several times, etc. What do i do to fix this? if not I must return it to New Egg!
thanks,
billy
