Reporting Random freezes (3 times in 2 weeks)
12-02-2010 06:09 AM - edited 12-02-2010 06:36 AM
1. Laptop
2. Acer 5920G
3. Windows 7
4. Beeping sound every few minutes. Movies stuttering.
5. Two weeks old XT ST95005620AS (500GB, SD23 from manufactory).
I think we should try to involve the media, if all of us will send emails (adding link to here) to various major sources (like Tom Hardware, CNET, Engadget etc), maybe we will get a coverage that will make Seagate to pay attention.

^ Good idea !
What's the best way to do this ? Only post in forum or we need to contact higher ranking contacts ? How about we all post negative reviews on NewEgg.com, Amazon.com .
And we link back all our activity in this forum so that Seagate can easily read them.
I already linked this thread in the StorageReview.com forum , here http://forums.storagereview.com/index.php/topic/28

Love the idea of this drive, read the reviews and all were good, but I have learned a lesson. Google "{product name} sucks" or something like that BEFORE purchase.
1. Laptop
2. Apple MacBook Pro early 2008
3. OSX 10.6.5
4. Have had the drive now for 3 weeks. Beeping periodically, just as mentioned in many other posts, and has always run hot. Now the system is starting to randomly lag with the spinning beach ball of death. The lack of response to this thread to me is quite underwhelming.
I'm currently running the latest SD23 Firmware.
I think I'm going to go through the process of just returning, and not even bother with replacing, as what I have read here is that you send it in and get a refurb version of the same poor functionality. That's NOT acceptable. Sorry, Seagate, but looks like you may have lost a bunch of customers.

Negative feedback will only make people not to buy this HDD, that will not make Seagate fix the drive for the people who bought it already.
We need a story covrage that will be published in one (or more) of the websites I mentioned above.
I already sent emails to these websites. I recommend we all do the same thing.

I got the same annoying system freezes. These lags are occurring frequently for 1-2 secs.
My specs are:
Model: ST92505610AS
Firmware: SD23
OS: Ubuntu Linux, 10.10
Dell Vostro 1320 Notebook

**bleep** the Momentus XT drives I have are killing me! They Ssss-ttt-u-ttt-eeeeee-rrr like mad, freezing up my PC for several seconds at a time, randomly and constantly. Gaming is impossible with these drives. Newegg won't refund me and Seagate will only exchange them for new drives (wich will still have the same problem).
Win7 64-bit, 4GHz intel CPU, 6gig ram, and 2 horrible Seagate Momentus XT drives.
