Is there a way to erase data that's stored on the Momentus XT's SSD?

I'm thinking about data privacy security implications here.

Let's say there's a file that's stored on the HDD portion that the Momentus XT automatically decided to copy onto the SSD portion (for fast, future retrieval as it's supposed to, right?).

If I erase that file on the HDD portion, is it immediately erased from the SSD portion as well? Or, does it LINGER on the SSD for a while until it gets over-written by other data later on?

I think that Seagate should provide a way for us to clear the otherwise-inaccessible 4 GB or 8 GB portion of the SSD (depending which version we have). It's just not right that we delete data thinking it's gone when the SSD may secretly keeping a copy of it for later recovery by an adversary.

Thanks.

It's a good point and I'll try and get some answers for you later.

to the best of my knowledge though all the SSD side of things gets written to it is boot files to open the O/S and programs faster, so I wouldn't worry about saucy pic's of the wife ending up on the internet.

At the present time, no. It is an issue that has been raised with Seagate in conjunction with providing a set of software tools to go with the XT platform.

However, at this time, there is no update on Seagate's progress.
