Mac OS X Lion & Momentus XT

Still waiting for Amazon to have the Vertex 3 in stock so i can buy one... However, I installed Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 onto my 2010 MBP 13" on Saturday and and since then haven't experienced any issues with my Momentus XT.

Anyone else running Lion and have feedback on performance.  the Developer Preview also updated Bootcamp to version 4.0 and while running Windows 7 (64-bit), i haven't experienced any issues either.  This may all be a coincidence since some of the problems we have with the XT occur randomly, but just wondering if anyone else is running Mac OS X Lion and the XT.

Re: Mac OS X Lion & Momentus XT

just an fyi, I recently upgraded to developer preview 3 of mac oS x lion (10.7) this weekend and the drive appears to be running pretty stable for now.. more interesting though was that the battery life seemed to skyrocket back to what it was when i had the oem hard drive.

with the airport turned off, screen brightness turned down, and the keyboard backlight turned off, the battery meter was approaching 9-10 hours... had the mac book pro on the plane and flying for 7 hours and with these conditions and using MS Word only, had no need to charge whatsoever...

seagate may wanna test to see whether the momentus xt plays more friendly with mac os x lion... and which changes to mac os x lion from snow leopard may account for these changes...  still testing to see if sleep is fully working and to make sure i'm not getting any lag or beachballing... so far, no problems.

Re: Mac OS X Lion & Momentus XT

ok, could you test the disksleep function?

in terminal : pmset -g

this will tell you how long your "disksleep" is set. i think normal is about 10 minutes.

if you want, you can adjust this to 1 minute and test the result, if the momentus will spin down after 1 minute

just type in terminal: sudo pmset -a disksleep 1

enter your password. you can default it by setting disksleep back to 10.

hope lion has a better APM. thanks for testing

hi, during the day i work using my windows partition through bootcamp but i can run the tests you mention later.

is the point of the test to see whether the drive continues to sleep when the lid is shut? as i mentioned, when i closed the lid, the drive spun down after 10 seconds.  when i woke up this morning, the battery wasn't drained or anything, and it just woke up from sleep.  let me know.

I think he's referring to the fact that the drive will never spin down on inactivity, as it is my case also. The computer sleeps just fine, but the drive never stops spinning until it goes to sleep.

exactly! this is what you should test please. thats the intereseting point, cause if its work under lion, the battery life will be better and last longer.

Re: Mac OS X Lion & Momentus XT

as i mentioned i'm getting 7-8 hours of battery life with light usage.

i tried this disk sleep test and i don't think i noticed the disk spinning down after 1 minute after changing the setting.  is the disk supposed to go to low power usage during periods of inactivity or is it supposed to spin down completely similar to when you close the lid?

i definitely think Lion is managing APM better but it's hard to tell exactly what is happening with the XT with disk sleep set to one minute.  the screen is dimming but the drive seems to still be running...
