Momentus 5400.6 320 GB 2.5"

[ Edited ]

Dear All,

My Acer notebook has an internal Seagate momentus 5400.6. 320 GB SATA harddrive. Yesterday I get an blue screen in Windows XP. When I reboot, the system does'nt come up.

Futher investigation tells me that the drive is spinning, the drive is found by the BIOS, but a size of 0 GB is shown.  After attached to a second computer:

Windows XP SP3 cannot see the drive anymore. When i listen very cloose, i cannot hear the drive make the "read and write" sound.

Also, in the Windows MMC i cannot see the Momentus disk anymore. Booting the system takes almost five minutes longer when the disk is attached. (trough the normal internal SATA interface).

I think that my PCB is wasted (heat issue?) but i am not sure where i can find a replacement for it in the Netherlands (or Europe). (there is data on the drive that i want to keep).

Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

The rule of thumb is that if a drive spins up but is not properly detected, then the PCB is probably OK. In your case the drive appears to be having difficulty retrieving information from a hidden System Area on the platters.
