Momentus XT 500 disk strangely dead on OSX: any ideas?

Hello there. This thread is possibly not related to the famous firmware issues.

Last week my Momentus XT drive installed as the main volume of my MBP sort of died as a 100gr. microphone hit the Macbook falling from a short distance (and hitting the opposite corner of the MBP hard disk one).

Before throwing it away or trying warranty replacement I'd like to try to recover it because this failure seems strange:

No noises or clicks, disk name & partition name is correctly seen, but does not mount automatically nor via Disk Utility. However, repairing disk, verifying disk & permissions don't show any error, process completes in a few minutes with no death clicks.

I even did a successful firmware update from sd23 to sd34 using the bootable cdrom with no errors.

Any clues about Mac diagnostics procedures?

I'm starting to suspect it could be something related to the SSD part. In that case is there any way to "reset" it?

I have restored a full backup on another drive so I can perform some tests with no risk, I'd really need to recover just one big file that was saved just a few minutes before the crash..

any help really appreciated.

L.

Re: Momentus XT 500 disk strangely dead on OSX: any ideas?

UPDATE: After some more tests, the disk hw is definitely not gone, although it cannot be mounted

if I run some Mac recovery apps they can see the whole content.

Now the problem is: how can I mount it to recover some files before trying reformatting it.

I've tried manual mounting using diskutil and mount, even in read-only mode, but I get a

"mount_hfs: Invalid argument" error.

Any help?
