Last I checked in a post it said Seagate can give a crud if a third party software shows bad readings if their checker passes and it did... so thats out I found a driver in my device manager that controlled APM and disabled it. This at least fixed some of my lag when I watch youtube videos and such. Sadly the game still lags. HDTune's benchmark still causes the game to run smoother, there is some lag still. I also learned using -high in the command line for my game made it run a little better to which from what someone told me means it gives the game higher priority for computer resources, which it really shouldn't need. So im still at a loss.

Anyone have any suggestions here I have from what I can see turned off all APM, used this http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml to find the culprit of some of the lag, but my games still lag like a mofo I need to check again, but the latency stayed low even when I got the spikes. Steam s support said it is the spin down still as a VTrace utility they had me run showed hl2.exe waiting for data.

I'd like to unearth this thread again as I'm having similar issues to the original posters of this thread.  I purchased an Alienware m17r3 with 2 500GB Seagate Momentus XT with Intel HW based RAID-0 implemented.  I've had issues with 80% of the games I've tried to play with this system.  I've had Dell come out to replace various HW parts trying to fix the issue.  They've been very responsive and I've been happy with the fact that their priority is to quickly eliminate HW defects as an issue but OBVIOUSLY they don't understand the APM issue of raiding Seagate Momentus XT drives together.  

Similar to other posters, I can defeat the APM issue by running an Intel utility that does HDD error checking and fixing.  It runs about an hour during which time my games run like a champ.  As soon as its done, I'm back in a lag fest and usually dead and respawning.  

I have not tried to un-RAID my system to do additional verification, but I do know that I have no access to this setting in the BIOS and I've set all of the Win 7 power setttings correctly to NEVER turn off the HDDs unless it is on battery.  Are there other solutions that solve this problem now besides SW based RAID or moving away from RAID altogether?
