I have an XT on order (haven't been this intrigued about a new HD product since I bought a "half height" 40MB Seagate ST-xxx back in the Middle Ages - "cough"). Have always been fastidious about defragging (Paul Mace anyone?). Just wondering what the word is on defragging the XT. Early reviews suggest a defrag resets the "learned behaviour" of the drive.
Thanks

I just ordered one myself and was doing some research on the issue and it appears that you still need to defrag, though doing so wipes out the drives learned behavior, but the drive is able to "re-learn" rather quickly. Check out this article from Anand Tech for more reading. They address the defrag issue about halfway through.

That's correct, so I wouldn't recommend defragging very often. And of course the drive will relearn and thus speed up its booting, but defragging "resets" the learning.
