Oh man, Seagate doesn't get it right!!!
This issue was originally on the drive in earlier versions on Windows. I believe it has to do with power saving and noise reduction.
For Windows there is a small tool that helps you: Google QuietHDD v1.5 build 250.
This tool effectively sets parameters.
Apparently you get this once your drive has gone into standby.
Yes this will harm your drive if it lasts longer. I am certainly going back to SD24, because SD24 did not feature this issue in my Mac Mini.

How can you roll back the firmware on your drive? I was under the impression you cant?
And may I ask how will this sound harm the drive? jw

HAHA,Ok so I just got off the phone with tech support and I basically got lectured on how I shouldn't of updated the firmware for the hard drive. Correct me if Im wrong but don't the companies want us to update to the latest firmware for bug fixes? I just find this hilarious that he said that. What do yall think? Should I just have the Hard drive replaced?

That is silly. If you had called and told them that you were worried about developing some of the problems others had reported, they would have told you to update your firmware for best results.
I have found that repairing permissions in disk utility has stopped the "beep." I was getting one every few minutes when it was idle, but I haven't had one for hours after repairing permissions. I don't know how often I will have to repair permissions to keep them from coming back though. Try it and see if it helps, or if its just a fluke.

I used Disk Utility to repair my permissions and I didn't have any "beeps" for about an hour. But now the "beeps" are back...![]()

Are these beeps you talk about on Mac's or PC's?
I have 2 Momentus XT drives in my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop (W7-64), and though I did the SD25 upgrade about 45 min ago, I have not heard any beeping from the drives....
Is this a Mac only thing?

I believe it is just macs that are having this problem. Since macs handle things differently and have different power management than a pc.

I am not sure if the beeps are mac only. I am on a mac though. It took a couple weeks for them to develop. I installed SD25 on the first day that it came out. And the beeps started a few days ago. They seem to be getting worse. I am guessing the drive will fail after a couple months of beeping, if I can tolerate it that long. This drive will turn into an expensive Time machine backup disk here shortly and I will put the stock drive back in. Very disappointing.
The repair permissions trick is a temporary fix at best. The beeps are back with a vengeance. Every couple minutes when I am viewing a powerpoint presentation it beeps. "Put the harddisk to sleep when not in use" is not checked. It doesn't seem to make a difference either way. This is the noisiest drive I have ever heard in a notebook at this point.

I can also verifying that repairin the disk permissions makes the beeps go away for a short period of time. There is a thread floating around that some guy was able to have seagate replace his drive with a whole nother type of drive,I would like to see seagate do that for all of us since they released a product that is not ready for general use.
