Momentus XT, Momentus, Momentus Thin, MobileMax, and other notebook drives

Hi All,

Just wanted to make you aware that currently some online retailers in the UK seem to be distributing OEM versions of the Seagate Momentus XT (ST95005620AS) and passing them off as retail editions.

I've ordered one from two different retailers and they both have firmware TD27 and are not supported by Seagate. These can not be upgraded to SD28 (there are workarounds to force the firmware update; let me know if you want any info). Toshiba won't support these either because their only meant for Toshiba computers.

I made this mistake - I have a drive with a TD24 firmware revision...not supported etc etc.

The drive works, but I have "stuttering" issues.  Can I have more information about the "force update" you mentioned.

I would be very hesitant to apply retail firmware to an OEM drive, but here is a success story:
