Momentus XT runs hot

[ Edited ]

I am running the 500GB Momentus XT in an external enclosure.  The enclosure is the Mukii Transimp TIP-230-SU (http://www.mukii.com.tw/en/products/transimp/tip-230su-bk.html) When I rest my hand on it, it feels very warm, like the top of a baseboard radiator.  Not burning, but certainly uncomfortable i.e. you wouldn't use such a high temperature on a heating pad for athletic injuries because your skin would certainly get reddish after a few minutes.  It makes me wonder whether this is normal.  I used smartmontools's smartctl to query the S.M.A.R.T. report (attached at the bottom).  It shows the temperature as 52 celsius, whereas the the specs say that the ambient temperature can go up to 60 celsius in operation.  [http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/disc/manuals/notebook/momentus/XT (Anak 7200.1)/100610268a.pdf].  So would it be correct to say that this is a nonissue?

S.M.A.R.T. report from cygwin's smartmontools

Re: Momentus XT runs hot

Hint to Seagate hardware design: Die shrink the controller, use a more dense version of Flash.. and mucho power reduction.. and better specs to beat the competition coming to WD near you.
