No controller found for firmware update

I just purchased a Llano based Gateway laptop. When installing my Momentus xt drive I tried to update the firmware from sd26 to sd28 but  it will not work. I have tried both the windows based solution and the bootable cd. Both of which "Failed."

It appears that the firmware utitlity cannot find a controller ("No controller found" when trying to search for drive) and so it does not see the drive. I have tried entering the bios and changing the controller to IDE but this still did not work. I am guessing this is an issue with the new Llano chipset/controller. Any other things I could try?

Re: No controller found for firmware update

It has been over 2 months and I have tried the procedure again and it did the same thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Put the drive in a different machine / external casing and see if it works.

Hey,

Do you have the problem with both, Windows and Dos version of the firmware?

Re: No controller found for firmware update

I'm also having this issue with an ST3000DM001. Windows and DOS CD won't work. Tried IDE, AHCI, RAID, Disabled in the CMOS with no-joy. BIOS sees the drive but the Firmware program doesn't. I'll post back if I have any luck
