Re: SD24 Didn’t Fix Your Issues?

My gosh! This drive (with SD25) is so much faster than my original 5400 rpm drive....

Seagate, Let's try to flash my "faulty" SD24 momentus XT drive with the new SD25?

Re: SD24 Didn’t Fix Your Issues?

I guess a simple albeit not too scientific test of spin down/battery life is just to make sure the notebook is fully charged, then disconnect power, wait about  3-5 mins and see what the battery life is.  If it stays in the 6-7 hr range for you a 2010 i7, then the drive is probably spinning down.  If it's not, you'll probably see about only 3-3.5 remaining on a seemingly full charge.

In my case with a late 2008 unibody, on SD 24, a full charge shows a 2:00 or so remaining immediately on a power disconnect on full charge.  When it was on SD22, it was a hair over 4:00.  When I switched back to the original 7200 drive, it went back to about 4:10 ish.  (Yes, I actually get those numbers... I use the machine on a plane all the time, most recently yesterday.)

I so hope they fix it this time... Really trying to not drop the $ on a real SSD.

But thanks krisdk for sharing

I have now worked 3 hours on the laptop (with skype open: has a notorius bug that prevents the INTEL GPU switch. that means I have been running on the NVIDIA GPU) the battery says 1:36 hours left 36% remaining charge! This is way better than SD24!

Im still not convinced that the drive spins down.... but it also set to 10 mins by default (pmset -g disksleep) ... And as I don't smoke I have not left the computer yet ;o)

so, if you unplug fully charged, and not have anything running, how much time/charge does it show after a 10-11 min?  if it's not spinning down, i think you will see the charge drop right before your eyes!

thanks!

Re: SD24 Didn’t Fix Your Issues?

Hello!

I also have Seagate Momentus XT, and all the problems described in other topics also exist in my case (freezes, 'beachballing', weak performance of the drive)

I have installed it in MacBook Pro 3,1 with 4GB of RAM (Corsair).

The most frequent problem is that time-to-time my system freezes and 'beachball' comes out for around 30-60s, and it makes my computer unusable.

I have upgraded firmware in my HDD to SD24 via Bootcamp (Windows 7) and the problem still exists.

I hope that SD25 will solve this issue, I cross my fingers!

Please Seagate - do not leave your users alone!!

Hi Kris,

Glad to hear about the speed and no noticable beeps and hiccups so far! We are anxiously waiting for more info from all the testers.

I have a few more requests for drives so I'll go ahead and send out a few more but if all stays good then we'll move forward with posting the new firmware next week.  Our lead engineer wants more data - just like an engineer eh?   He's just looking out for you guys.
