thanks for response fzabkar,
My previous HD was healthy!
I had the same problems that everyone had with this hd...:
click noise and suspension of operation for a few seconds
(tests were all OK)
The programs that had not worked, now no longer crashes,
and no longer hear the click that preceded the block (and then on again)
I would say simply that it works well!
I wrote to Seagate (Read here ---> 46 ) and now after RMA and replacement HD, i have resolved.
Except, maybe, counters SMART ... ![]()

not sure where i am with all of this
i have an older macbook pro and have recently installed the non -g version of this drive....the heads produce just one click and then system stalls ...it's not a constant thing...it's noticeable on the mac side but much worse when gaming in bootcamp
it's only 3 weeks old but i don't think i have the receipt to return it, nor good enough spanish to explain the situation
am i to understand that i bought the 'best' drive on the market only to have to settle for a problem that renders this drive useless in comparison to my 3year old 100gig seagate
what can i do ??
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Hi,
I've got Seagate ST9500420AS, SN: 5VJ0LB47, Firmware: 0002SDM1 exhausted from some Dell laptop (I don't know which model, because I bought them (HDD) on the ebay). I have got that same problem - 'clicking' noise. When this happens, I can't for the moment to do anything on the HDD, even though it lasts only a fraction of a second, but it is annoying.
I this moment, HDD is in Acer 4520G laptop. Is it possible to make updates firmware on my notebook? If yes, please provide the link for the update the firmware.
Thanks a lot!

Download either of the Dell firmware upgrades, R250679.exe or R250352.exe.
Burn this bootable ISO image onto a CD-R.
Boot this CD and allow it to run the flash procedure. The first pass may fail, but you should be left at the DOS prompt.
FDLH -m HOLLIDAY -f 0005SDM1.LOD -i ST9320423AS -b -v
I just did this on my retail ST9320423AS (with R250352.exe). It had a 0002SDM1beforehand. Though the first (automatic) pass failed, I then run the command manually, and it worked like a charm.
The disk still works, which is a plus. Not sure about the clicking yet, as it only happens periodically, but I haven't heard anything so far
Thanks fzabkar et al.!

Oh my God... Update the firmware was successful - on my Acer motherboard, using only this Seagate Utility.iso recorded on the disc.
Then I boot the computer from the CD, waited a moment and received a word that everything went successfull.
Then I boot the computer from HDD, checked the firmware version in Everest and it's 0005SDM1. Ufff... ![]()
I'll report if I had still 'clicking' or not on this forum.
Thanks a lot
