I'm facing this problem in ST9750420AS, but the brand is Acer laptop 8473TG. Seagate think i can work with Acer on this matter. But I'm wondering what's the point to work with ACER if Acer just replace the defective HDD with the new one without recovering data from the defective HDD?

If you don't like the rules, buy some other brand and see if you can get different rules more to your liking.

Test the drive with seatools for DOS (if it's being detected in the BIOS) if it fails any tests, replace the drive.
If the drive came with your computer, it is considered "OEM"...when a drive is OEM, it is purchased by the computer manufacturer (dell, HP, etc) and they do their own thing with the drive including firmware. They also take over tech support for the drive and warranty. Seagate will over SOME (keyword: some...) basic support for the drive...usually referring you to seatools or basic troubleshooting...but ultimately you need to go to the OEM to get assistance with a drive that came with your computer.
