Recently purchased a 320Gb model and upgraded firmware to SD25. All was working brilliantly for a week and then started to suffer from stuttering first noticed in video playback and then playing games. Took harddrive out of my Dell Studio XPS laptop and connected to my Quad Core Q6600 base unit and it behaved slightly worse, Internet Explorer repeatedly stuttered.
Have added my info to the spreadsheet but feel let down that I can only use the harddrive as a slave unit.

Similar story to another user, I purchased my XT 6 months back to replace a failing Momentus (which still hasn't failed) and it's been on the shelf waiting for when I had time to upgrade my laptop storage.
After installing and upgrading to SD25 I began to hear a constant clucking sound every 2-3 seconds after seeking (I assume on head park). There was that sinknig feeling in the pit of my stomach at the prospect of having to return yet another drive to Seagate. An entire week spent in dissarray desperately scouring internet forums and backwater posts for solutions. At one point I became desparate enough to simply run HD Tune in an endless loop to keep my heads from parking and making that sound.
I found the solution on page 2 with the quietHDD APM solution. Firstly, I have no idea if disabling APM is any better of a solution (though it works, the HD is quiet now, what will this do to my batter and drive life?).
Secondly, it's the sheer arbitrariness that utterly scares me, in fact terrifies me. Had I never decided to spend that extra click, those few extra seconds reading some page here or there, I may never have stumbled on the solution and certainly many less-invested in finding internet resources never will. Literally I had resigned to the next few weeks being heck as I waited for a Seagate response, then negotiating return and shipping etc. Absolute dread.
Despite my baited breath and temporary uneasy relief, the feeling of so narrowly having (don't want to jinx it here) weeks of more problems- it's nerve-wracking- it's simply not a good feeling, not a feeling I'd wish on any customer who expects a delivered product to just work without having hoping they find that one obscure solution that fixes it for them.
Sorry for the long post, it's as best as I can describe my user experience over the last week. Assuming this drive/solution lasts me any amount of time I think it will take me into my next SSD, and I don't think I'll be coming back to Seagate until I can be assured this will never be my or anyone's experience again.

Hi. I was having the (seems to be) classical problem of video stutterring/hick-ups while playing games, with the XT Hybrid Momentus, and upgraded FW to SD25 to see if things would improve.
It after upgrading through the DOS CD, though, i returned to the desktop to see that all my USB ports were NOT working, as long as my WiFI and ethernet adapter!
i managed to work it out by re-installing the wifi adapter, but the problem is that i have to do this EVERY TIME I RESTART.
it seems that the momentus firmware somehow affected the way the chipsed behaves.
help! help!
thanks

This to report that I've recently been contacted by Seagate. They offered me to swap the currently faulty XT drive with a 750GB ST, and then to send me a >= 320GB XT drive as soon as the new serie will be available.
The ST should be on its way already, and I'm supposed to return the faulty XT asap.
I must say that the person who contacted me was very professional and ready to answer all of my questions, so much that if in the end I will have this ST drive AND a working XT, I will be ready to forget this last months of nighmares with the current XT.
I will keep posting updates on this forum regarding my situation.

I hope they extend that level of service to all of us struggling with this drive.

I've seen some people stating they have been in contact with Seagate to swap out their drives for a 750gb one, and while I love the loadtimes of the MomentusXT, the freezing it causes has become more and more severe. I use my computer as a musician and during live performances freezes and hiccups are unacceptable. Would anyone be kind enough to direct me where to contact Seagate directly to resolve these issues(either through firmware or replacement)?
(for the record, I'm running Model: ST95005620AS, Firmware: SD24 purchased around a year ago)
Thanks guys!

linkpalmer - check this KB article to see if your drive qualifies for firmware version SD25. That might fix that issue you were talking about

Tried to post on the spreadsheet but there were no headings... couldn't make sense of many of the columns.
Model Identifier:MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo
Capacity:500.11 GB (500,107,862,016 bytes)
Model
T95005620AS
Revision

Drive is great, no issues other than my powermeter on the Mac reports it at 93% at all times. Plugged, unplugged. Almost Dead. The side LEDs on the MBP tell me the true story thankfully. Small issue, but there it is.
I like this drive!

Sure seems to be a big parade of sick Momentus XT disks. Is the AFR really that bad?

Have you tried using a different browser or clearing out the cache on your current one?
If it still doesn't work, would you post a screenshot on here?
