Dear Community,
1st of all, sorry for my rubbish english...![]()
i love my notebook, due to that, that this shiny thing worked almost 3 years, minimum 12 hours a day, without any (!!!) problems...
games or in work, this thing was the best thing, i have ever buyed...but after 3 years it is also time for some changes...
i searched for some really goodies for my ASUS notebook, special to increase performance with a eye on the price...
i know, that a better harddrive and W7 64 bit would increase my performance...
but a 128 GB SSD is to small and a 256 GB SSD was to pricy, so my eye went to the Momentus XT 250 GB...
i buyed a Momentus XT 250 GB with a W7 Prof 64bit...
so i made a copy of all important files, got rid of the rubbish win vista, installed the XT in my laptop and installed W7 on it...
as i installed a lot of new firmware, driver´s and software, this Momentus XT + new win 7 was a boost like heck...
i was so happy, i can´t describe it...after a few weeks a collegue told me about some problems with the XT´s...
i did some searching and found, that my XT is running with SD24 and installed SD25...a few weeks i can´t remember, that there was some faults...
since 2 weeks, i hate my XT...it starts to freeze, automatically shuts down or freezes so crazy, that i need to reboot manually...
he gents at seagate....???
this notebook was working like heck, day and night, i love it for the resolution, brightness, after 3 years enough power for me, sound, equipment, options, outfit, surface...i tell you, this thing was great...
i need it not only for some games, i work 50-60 hours a week and was used to it, that my notebook had a reliability of 100%
it sound like the drive stops every 2-10sec...or is the "ticker noise normal"...?
(this notebook didn´t fall 1 time on the floor or got punched by something, it looks like new!)
sometimes it takes 2 sec longer, when i switch from the explorer to outlook...etc...etc...etc...
believe me, i can write here 234762436 more words of complaiments, but there is no sense...
do something...fast...![]()
when there is no solution coming up in the next few weeks,
is it possible to send it back to seagate and change it with extra-cost to a SSD?
my system now:
1. Notebook
2. ASUS L50Vn, i think it is a Intel PM45 MB
3. W7 64bit + Office 2007 Ultimate
4. freeze, auto reboot, crashes, lagging
sorry for the wall of text and the rubbish english...![]()
many Thanks and best regards,
Race

sadly after hours of working, mouse pointer frozen again...manual reboot...![]()
did only office things like mails, MS project planer etc...
so there was no heat, fan is very slow...
i am not pretty sure, but i think this ticki noise is away after flashing from SD25 to SD28...
so what is next?![]()

@raceandsound
You should ask your drive for a S.M.A.R.T. report. You can get this with many many different freeware programs out there. If you can, post with a screenshot of the report. This will give us an idea if it is a physical problem with your drive or not.

Sure no problem,
i did it with the program DiskCheckup, when you need more details with another program, please let me know (file attached)...

Hello!
I have a really similar problem to that of raceandsound with Momentus XT (SD28). Computer just randomly freezes completely (cursor doesn't move) and the only solution is to hard reboot. I don't know what to do, I even can't return the drive to the shop, because freezes are random and I can't proove that there is a problem. Please help!
Best,
Maija

The "Raw Read Error Rate", ECC corrected and "Seek Error Rate" indicate hardware troubles with your hardrive, the firmware has nothing to do with it.
I'd immediately back it up to another drive, using Norton Ghost or whatever method you can. Then, try to RMA it.
Is the freezing getting worse and worse? It might be and so you shouldn't use the drive anymore until you have backed it up.

oh my gosh... ![]()
Thank you very much for your help!
No freezing started and hold on the same level...
Good thing is, that i do not need wait for a better firmware but:
is there any chance, that i request a new one from seagate, they send it, i change it and send the failed one back?
and the next question is, do i get a good test new one?
best regards,
Race

Yes, that is called and 'Advanced replacement RMA' or 'Advanced RMA', something like that. This is where you give seagate your credit card information, and they send you a replacement drive first, you receive it and
transfer the data over, and give the bad drive back to seagate.
Here, you can start the RMA process. I'm not sure if you will get the option to do an Advanced RMA, you might have to make a phone call to make that happen.http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US
