Re: disk health problem

Ashampoo's author does not understand Seagate's counterintuitive SMART attributes. Therefore his/her interpretations of the data should be viewed with caution.

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/Seagate_SER_RRER_HEC.html

The Raw Read Error Rate is quite OK and is within the normal range for your model. I don't understand how the author arrives at a "status" of only 54%.

The Seek Error Rate is actually 0 and represents a perfect score, not 70%.

The End-to-End Error Count has fallen below its threshold level, so technically that would mean that the drive has failed. However, I have yet to see any case where this error has been a genuine problem. In fact I suspect that all such errors are automatically corrected.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

As for the temperature, a value of 53C is not good, but it is also not unusual in a laptop environment. I don't know what you could do about it, other than to play with your fan speeds and power management settings.
