I currently updated to latest firmware SD28 now having random lag spikes..

Minimum transfer rate I tested with HD Tune is 4.5MB/s I had much better performance with SD26

Is it possible to downgrade to SD26 back? or turn the SSD function off and use it as normal 7200rpm drive??

I have exactly the same problem - SD 23 = lag spikes, SD24 = lag spikes and then SD26 solved the problem. Now on SD28 ( I read that some people got a performance boost with it)  the lag spike is back. The answer of the support? "Please RMA your drive" and "downgrading isn`t possible" - I dont want to sound rude or anything, but I bought the drive back at the time when it was released and I lived about 9 months with that lag, waiting for a solution which came in form of SD26. And now its starting again ...

1 – Scarichiamo la versione del firmware interessata
2 – masterizziamo la ISO scaricata
3 – annotiamo il codice del modello del nostro disco, lo possiamo leggere facilmente con un qualsiasi programma che legga lo smart sotto Windows o dalle informazioni dettagliate sul sistema nel Mac. Il codice è una stringa alfanumerica che inizia per ST
4 – possiamo riavviare il pc facendo il boot dal cd su cui abbiamo masterizzato la ISO
5 – facciamo terminare l’avvio fino a quando non siamo davanti al menu di sceltà, a questo punto interrompiamo la procedura guidata premendo CTRL+C
6 – scriviamo DIR al prompt dei comandi, tra i file nella directory ci sarà un file con estensione LOD, annotiamone il nome
7 – a questo punto possiamo scrivere il firmware, il comando da dare è:

FDL487A -m Anak -f ”nome_firmware.lod” -i “codice del disco” -s -x -b -v -a 20

al posto delle parole tra virgolette sostituite il nome del file con estensione lod ed il modello del disco, senza includere le virgolette

8 – al termine della procedura potete spegnere il pc ed avviarlo con il nuovo firmware  ''

I just downgraded from SD28 to SD26 it solved my problem!!!

GUI doesn't freeze any more!! no lag spikes or audio drops!!

If you obtain firmware versions not from Seagate directly, there is a chance it contains malware.

Ok will try to remember how I've done this:

1. Download the SD26 firmware from here: Click here to start download from sendspace

2. Burn a .iso image onto blank CD (or make bootable flash drive) and boot from it 

3. Interrupt the wizard boot before the menu appears by pressing CTRL+C to get DOS console

4. Enter the command: cd D:\ where ''D'' is your CD drive letter it can be different in your case

5. then type: DIR and hit enter it will show you what's present on this bootable CD 

4. Enter: FDL487A -m Anak -f ”firmware_file_name_on_cd.lod” -i “your_disk_model” -s -x -b -v -a 20

** no need to type '' '' 

*** FDL487A - it can be different name of file for SD26 but something similar you will notice

WAIT TILL IT'S FINISH FIRMWARE UPGRADE!

5. Restart your machine.
