Hi,
Couldn't find my exact problem in other posts. Whenever I boot my PC runnig XP Pro SP3, my 1TB Seagate External Desktop Drive (s/n 2GHJYTXG) is not seen. If I pull the power to the drive and then plug it back in (while the rest of the system is up), Autoplay runs and the drive is now fully functional. It does suffer from occasional clicking, but no other failures to report. The drive only contains a Seagate Folder and a folder with music files. I have run Seatools and the drive is fine according to it.
I also have a Seagate 500GB External Desktop Drive and it comes up normally on boot and has never had any problem, including clicking...
Any suggestions? Thanks...

What happens if you swap the USB ports that these two external drives are connected to?

Thanks for your response. I should have mentioned that in my 1st post -- I had thought of that early on and have tried every USB port on the machine. Here's a bit more info if it might help any:
(stuff deleted)
In following up on your idea I looked in Device Manager again and I was always looking under Disk Drives, but now I see that the USB has an unknown device with an "!" and when I dig further it says "the Drivers are not installed for this device" with a Code 28.
I've now read the Knowledge Base Doc: 199859, and it basically says to do what I've done, other than I've skipped the part on uninstalling the unknown USB device before powering down the drive. So I follwed the steps as the doc has...
Eureka!! It comes up on reboot now! I thank you for helping make me dig a little deeper into my own problem -- I was just gathering more info to tell you and it got me to the answer. Thanks...

I'm sorry, I show that you've received three contacts from Tech Support in the last week. Could you please explain what you mean by

What I meant to say is that I did not receive anything that helped/solved the problem.
Let me add a little to this. I have 5 USB external drives and 2 computers. One computer runs Windows7 (32 bit) and the other Windows7 (64 bit). All of the drives work without any problem on the 32 bit computer. All of the drives, execpt for the Maxtor/Seagate 1TB drive, work on the 64 bit computer. The Maxtor/Segate drive works OK if I plug it in while the compter (64 bit) is running. However, if the drive is plugged in at the time the computer boots up, the drive does not work. I use this drive to hold my backups (using TrueImage). I can not use the TrueImage System Recovery because at the time that the computer boots up from the DVD it can not see the Maxtor/Seagate USB drive. I can't start the System Recovery and then plug in the drive because it selects the drives as the System recovery is starting up so it has to be plugged in prior to booting the computer.
I'm willing to try anything, with in reason, to get this problem fixed.
