250 gig OneTouch 4 Plus in WinXP/SP2 environment fails midstream of making a safetydrill images

Have a 250 gig OneTouch 4 Plus. Always seems to stop midstream while creating a SafetyDrill image. Thoughts as to why anyone? Thanks.

Mine does the same thing. Just bought it 2 days ago on sale $80 off at Best Buy... Hopefully it's not a lemon since Maxtor just got bought by Seagate.

My 500GB drive gets to 92% and the progress bar just stops. "Stop" will work, so its not like the application has crashed, but the drive light doesn't blink like an active transfer and copy is happening. I will probably call or use the chat support system, when they open on Monday.

Re: 250 gig OneTouch 4 Plus in WinXP/SP2 environment fails midstream of making a safetydrill images

I have the same problem with my 500 MB OneTouch 4 Plus (WinXP/SP2). I was using the FireWire connection. I tried twice and it failed both times at almost exactly the same spot (first time: 59% with 113109.7 Bytes Read, second time: 59% with 113110.63 Bytes Read). I had behaviour similar to that reported by others: light at front of drive stopped flashing; I was able to terminate the application by pressing the Stop button.

I'm having the same problem.  I'm running Windows XP Pro (on an AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual, 4200+, 2 GB RAM) connected to the One Touch by firewire.  I just reformatted my comp and re-installed the OS so it's a pretty clean setup right now.  I've tried to create a safety drill image four times and each time, it stops at 16%.  Looks like we all bought the product in the last couple of weeks . . . ?

Message 9 in that thread talks about the One Touch Backup software, which apparently has features disabled.   Hopefully the thing they disabled hasn't stopped the Safety Drill software.   At least Seagate's forum is decent.. but trying to get answers out of support seems difficult.

I just ran the Maxtor Manager update program, and my drive came with 4.02.0218,  firmware 0.21 -- there is now a 4.02.0226 available.  This must have happened in the last week.  I'll run SafetyDrill again post what happens next.

This software usually takes me about 2 hrs to get to 92% at 60GB on an HP Athlon 64's 160GB hard drive.

Hi vorik:

Thanks for your participation in the our forums so far. Please remember that this is an online community where many of the responses come from other users, such as yourself. The forum is not a replacement for Customer Service. Seagate representative do from time to time come to lend a hand answering posts but not necessarily on a continual or frequent basis. If you have immediate needs, your best bet is to contact Customer Service directly whether by phone, email, or chat.
Thanks.

thanks AlanM,

btw, the link above is from one of Seagate's or Maxtor's official forums.  Not sure why it shows up with a different server.

Talked to support via live chat.  Suggestion was to review the error log file, which is usually located at:

C:\Documents and settings\all users\application data\maxtor\bmr

we can probably collate some data here for support if necessary.
