2T Expansion Drive Locking Up Win 7

I have a 2T Expansion Drive Mod 9SEAN2-500 running on Win7. Unit is recognized in Device Manager and is shown as working properly, but it crashes Windows Explorer, Disk Manager,  and the Seagate Tools program when USB plugged in..

When connected Windows comes to a standstill and resources are maxed out, but drive will not operate. Other USB external hard drives operating ok. Have tried different cables and even went to the trouble of a clean reinstall of Win 7 to see if operating system was corrupt. Thankfully I do double backups but this drive is only 4 months old and was working fine until this week when problem started. No new programs where installed or changes made to system to have caused this problem. Unit is connected directly to USB port and not through my powered  hub, have tried front, rear, and USB expansion card on motherboeard all to no avail. No conflict found in regard to sharing a USB resource it stands alone and shows as ok. Because it crashes Seagate Tools no test can be done or code number can be discovered.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions to try!

Re: 2T Expansion Drive Locking Up Win 7

Before having you try my suggestion, I'm wondering if you've had a chance to try the drive on another computer? And did any software come with your Expansion model that you then installed? Some Expansion models have software, others don't, so it'd be good to know for me.

What I would try here is updating the USB drivers for your system. We have a good article available that explains the reasons behind updating those and provides guidelines as well:
