3TB Expansion Drive Access is Now VERY Slow

I have a Seagate 3TB expansion drive connected to my ACER laptop. I am running XP. When I first got it (although the one I have now is a "Seagate Certified Repair" as my original one died within three months of purchase) it seemed to work OK and accessing files was great. Now it is VERY slow when accessing files on it. When I click on  the drive icon in "My Computer" it can take upwards of a minute or so to open so I can see the files on it.   Clicking on a file to open can take 30 seconds to a minute to open.

Any thoughts?

Re: 3TB Expansion Drive Access is Now VERY Slow

The issue you described there could be caused by driver issues. Please take a look at this article and follow the instructions provided there:

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Re: 3TB Expansion Drive Access is Now VERY Slow

Thanks...I will try the driver route.

After sending my original message, I downloaded Seagate SeaTools for Windows and started running the checks.  My drive did fail the Short Drive Self Test check, which does not sound good.  My drive is already a replacement for my original 3TB expansion drive that died in the first 3 months I had it.

Any other thoughts and/or suggestions??

Thanks again

Re: 3TB Expansion Drive Access is Now VERY Slow

I would re-test the drive and if it fails any of the tests again, unfortunately it'd be best to exchange the drive once more:
