Re: Firmware update throws Error

I had laptop with a Windows XP Operating System and I was also using Maxtor One Touch II drive on my old laptop.  I now have a new laptop with Windows 7 Professional and I was also having a problem accessing my Maxtor drive on my new laptop until I found a few users who had the same exact problem.  What they discovered is that in order to view the drive on the new computer you must 1st connect your drive to your original computer that you were using your drive on and disable your security settings on your One Touch II drive?  You can look in your Maxtor manual starting on page 55 thru 57.  If you can’t find your manual I have provided the steps below:

  1. Connect your Maxtor Drive to your old computer
  2. Right click on the Maxtor Drive icon and choose Open
  3. You will see Main Menu with 3 Options to choose from (1. Setup & Restore, 2.  Drive Management, 3. Security Settings)
  4. Choose Security Settings (It will have a message saying “Scanning for attached drive settings”)
  5. You have a choice between Change Password or Disable Security  (You need to choose Disable Security)
  6. Make sure you know your old Password for your Maxtor drive that you set when you used the drive on your original or 1st computer because you will be prompted to enter your old password.
  7. Press the Apply Button after entering the old password.

NOTE:  Will see a message “You have disabled security for Maxtor One Touch drive”.  You should take your regular steps to disconnect your Maxtor drive from your old computer and attach it to your new one and it should recognize your Maxtor Drive Instantly.
