Disconnecting Seagate Expansion External 3TB

Hello,

I just bought a Seagate Expansion External 3TB . At first it worked great , however in just an hour (some more or less, didn't kept the time) it just disconnected. It did reconnect en disconnect in just a few seconds, Windows told me I had to format the partition since it was broken. When I took the power of the hard-drive for a short while, it worked again.

This process kept repeating itself. I though it could be the USB cable that didn't work properly, so I bought a new one. This didn't fix the problem since in just an hour (sometimes 2 or even 3 hours) it disconnected again.

I'm using Windows 7sp1 and connected the hard-drive to the PCI express card USB 3.0 from ICIDU, witch works fine. The hard drive disconnects when I'm using it and when I'm not.

The energy-saving settings where set on never at first, but now I set it on 5 hours. This change in settings didn't fix the problem either.

What I personally think is that the hard drive gets too hot, but I'm not sure. Does anyone else have the same problem and have some resolutions for me? Thanks in advanced!

Greeting,
Tycho

Re: Disconnecting Seagate Expansion External 3TB

Thanks for the replay.

I checked and I haven't installed the default Microsoft chipset, but the chipset from my factory (up to date).

I also have non of the listed problems (from the url),

my problem:

- the harddrive shutdown afther beeing active for 1-2 hours.

- reconnects en disconnects really fast servial times

- Windows asks me to format the broken partition everytime it reconnects

Solution: Disconnects and connects the power cable (not USB, that won't solve it!!)

(this solution works for an hour or two.)

So please tell me if I'm wrong, but I really think it's the harddrive's firmware or the harddrive heats up so mutch something go's wrong..?

Re: Disconnecting Seagate Expansion External 3TB

[ Edited ]

I'm havng the same problem (shuts itself down) with my Seagate Expansion 3Tb HDD and I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.

It also seems to hit a fault 36.52 Gb from the end, doesn't copy the last file and locks up Finder.

After the Seagate HD in my iMac failed after a few weeks use last year, I'm beginning to think Seagate may have quality assurance issues.
