Most will tell you that a 3rd party application is needed like Partiton Magic. That is true. But, Partition Magic is like $70.

I had corrupted file and chkdisk errors. I could not delete files. When I tested the drive with Maxtor Manager it told me it was bad and needed to be returned for service. What! I had only used it like 6 times in short sessions.
After deleting the partion. It can be reformatted and divided up however you like- even restored with Maxtor Manager.
I restored mine and the drive then tested as healthy and not needing service.
My goal was to format the Maxtor mini 4 160gb drive to 150gb FAT32 primary partition so I can plug it into my Xbox 360 and view videos and listen to music.
