I am trying to copy some files to my external HDD. But i get this error(Errom 0x8007045D: the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error)
I performed windows check disc to my external hdd, I tried to perform windows defrag but it takes too long and cancel it.I download a defrag software and defragged my hdd on fast mode(software is O&O Defrag) I tried hdd on another computer and I got the same error. Is this a hardware problem? Are there any possibilities to fix this problem? Thank You for Helping
External HDD is Seagate Expansion 1TB

Bumping instead of making a duplicate topic.
Am experiancing the same 0x8007045D I/O device error when I try to copy any files to/from my HDD, or in fact move, delete or open files, and more recently, open folders with files in them.
My external is the Seagate Expansion External Drive ST310005EXA101-RK, 1 TB.
My PC is a Dell studio 1558 notebook, Windows 7 Premium 64bit, Core i3 processor, 2.13ghz, 3.00 gb ram.
On another forum I was advised to update the firmware but can not find any downloads for the Expansion External Drives range on the site.
I have a lot of files on my external drive, most of which do not have copies elsewhere (Use drive because I ran out of space on main HDD, and also for storing old PC backups), and I really do not wish to lose them, so any help to recover them would be very welcome!
Thanks,
Rich.

For I/O errors, I recommend chkdsk and SeaTools for Windows tests first to see if the drive is faulty.
How to use SeaTools for Windows
