Expansion 1TB

I bought a Seagate Expansion Portable 1TB hard drive

ST910004EXA101-RK

It seems to work fine when I plug it into my Laptop.

The problem is when I plug it into my work PC.

When I plug it in it hangs/freezes the PC. I have to press the power button to get the PC to turn off.

If I plug it in and then turn on the PC it will  recognize the drive and let me use it.

I used the online trouble shooter. No help since I can't get to device manager because it freezes the PC.

I tried to use the Seatools for windows program. but it locks up too.

I did run the UVCView program and here is the information for the external drive

Re: Expansion 1TB

If you boot the computer while the Expansion drive is plugged in, does the computer freeze the same as if you boot it up without the drive connected and then plug it in after it is booted?

I think that some of these solutions might help, though not all.

Boot failure when the external drive is connected (suggested by a SeaGuru)
-Knowledge Base article - System Fails to P.O.S.T. When an External USB Drive is Connected on Bootup
-Knowledge Base article - USB Device causes XP system to hang on reboot
-Knowledge Base article - PC will not boot while Personal Storage drive is connected to system

Give a hoot. Backup your data on a second storage media.

Re: Expansion 1TB

If i boot the computer with the drive plugged in the computer boots with no problem. I can access the drive with no problems.

The computer only hangs when i plug the drive in after it is booted.

Thanks for the reply. I will check the solutions you suggested.

Re: Expansion 1TB

I checked the solutions you suggested but they all seem to be for when the computer hangs during boot. That is not my problem. The problem im having is when i plug the hard drive in when the computer is running already. If i plug the drive in when the computer is off and then turn on the computer. Everything works fine.
