I have formatted my Seagate Expansion Ext Drive 3Gb to HFS+ and it shows no errors in Disk Utility.
Repeatedly it freezes up my system, OSX 10.6.8, when I try to copy anything beyond the last 36.52Gb left.
First it slows the copying to a snail's pace, then almost but not quite seems to very slowly finish a 800mb file transfer. It seems to have a write problem before locking up Finder. The only way is restart the Mac.

We apologize for the inconvenience you are having with the drive. I know you stated you formatted the drive to HFS +. Have you tried to run a repair in Mac First Aid? If you have not already, I would try the drive on another Mac if possible to see if the problem follows the drive. Here is also a diagnostic program from Seagate that runs on Mac that you can try as well.

Let us know what the results are.

Mac First Aid? That hasn't been around since Mac OS9, 13 years ago!
I have however run Disk Utility over the drive which simply verifies it, which doesn't say much. I have run Disk Utility over an internal (Seagate) HDD and it verified it, including the S.M.A.R.T. whilst it was actually failing.
I will try your diagnostics software.

How interesting.
I have to restart the computer after installation to get Seagate Diagnostics to run and:
"No drives have been found. Please make sure a drive is on and properly connected to your computer"
Not even any interface that could push it to actually "find" any of the 4 currently mounted external HDDs, including the 3TB Expansion on my computer.
Think this will go straight in the bin. I hope it is a clean deinstall.
