Hi to everyone.I am new here.

I have a 2TB Seagate external USB3 hard drive and today for unknown reason i can't see the files.I have 3 other 2TB USB2 seagate but i didn't have any problem.

It is a new one HDD and i have this for 3 months and normal use.I have this HDD for save my files, photos music videos games, only and nothing more.

The hard drive is showing up in My Computer but i can't open the HDD.In the "Computer Management" and on Disk Management i can see the HDD but it doesn't show what is the File system,FAT or NTFS......something like that...on the disk 0 in this photo.

But my PC says that the HDD is healthy but it doen't show what is the File system or how free space i have.

I have try the Restorer 2000 Pro and with that program i can see all the files on the 2TB HDD.All the files are ok.I have restore some of them and they work fine and i can restore them all on other HDD.

The question is this......can i fix the 2TB HDD without losing my files....??I don't know what is the problem and i need help. What i can do for that...??Please help.:smileysad:

The 2TB seagate i have is this.....

Had you been attaching the drive to both your computer and your TV?

At this point you can only regain access to the data by using data recovery software, as you mentioned you've already tried.

Once you have recovered it you can then reformat the drive and test it with our SeaTools for Windows utility:

TV's tend to put a special file system on external hard drives. Your best option here [since the drive isn't faulty and data not corrupted] is to find out what format your TV uses, then install a reader for that format on your computer. That should resolve the issue.

[ Edited ]

Today i have try the HDD on other PC and i have the same problem. It looks that the problem is on the HDD.Is there any way to fix that.....??i have important files on this HDD and i must save them.If not.....the only i have to do is to buy a other 2TB HDD and restore my files there.

After this what i can do....??Format the disc and see if it works again...or i must send back the HDD to seagate to send me a new 2TB HDD...??The 2TB HDD is new and i have use it for only 3 months....and this is really sad..:smileysad:

You could try a Linux live Rescue CD to recover your files/ fix up filesystem.

Re: External 2TB Hard Drive Problem......Can't see the files. Please Help.

A Linux Live CD or Live USB let's you run the Linux operating system on your PC from the CD or USB drive without installing anything on your PC.

Live CD's are popular as a way of trying out a distribution of Linux without the hassle of a  hard disk install. It's still a full blown Operating System though and lets you do everything that you can do in windows, but it doesn't rely on the MBR so it will often read disks that windows rejects. Some versions of Linux will run within Windows and you can also dual boot where you have the option of loading either Linux or Windows at boot up, but I'd stick with the Live Cd for now to see if it works out restoring your external drive.

You can also try TestDisk which will run under various OS's including windows and DOS

The cause I think is what AskTheLeaf said; TV's and PVR's often try and write their own proprietary MBR so then the drive only works with them. I'm not sure why they do that, maybe it's to prevent filesharing but they should warn you before screwing up your drive.
