Help! How do I format my expansion drive fro a Mac- leopard (10.5)

I have a 1TB desktop Seagate expansion external drive and I'm running Mac 0S version 10.5.6 off my imac. I've looked all through knowledge base and haven't managed to find any instructions on how to format it for the Mac leopard interface. All the instructions seem to be for older versions and don't translate to the leopard.  Sorry this is probably a really dumb question with a really simple answer but any assistance would be great!
