Hello everybody, I have a 400gb external seagate drive I purchased about 3 years ago. Model is ST30000U2. It is the pushbutton backup model, but not the Freeagent, it is the model before that one which is more square shaped. I basically use the drive to store all my media and have attempted to keep all system files or installations off of the drive. Ive noticed the drive powers down after about 5 minutes of no access. My question is how can I change the power settings to keep the drive spinning longer? I like the fact that it powers down, but not in just 5 minutes. Im concerned about the drive spinning up 30-40+ times a day seems pointless to me and may cause premature failure of the drive. Im running windows XP and in the Power Options in the Control Panel only lists power options for internal drives, or only effects them at least. Is there any software to change the power options of this driveto keep it spinning longer of even for good?
