I/O Device Error

I just set up a new computer with Windows 7 and attached my Maxtor One Touch (120 GB) external hard drive (USB) to it and every time I try to use it it keeps telling me

"the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

The drive is working because I can save to it.  I just can't access the files I save to it from the old computer.

I have a number of files that I saved onto this drive and need access to it.  What is causing this I/O error?

Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Re: I/O Device Error

First step - run checkdisk on it.

Also SeaTools for Windows.
