I want to move my music files to my Maxtor One Touch 4... Will they get deleted?

Hi! I have a doubt that may seem very simple and dumb to some people, but I really need to ask because I don't want by any chance to lose my music.

So, here's the thing... My computer needs more space and the easiest way to do that would be to remove my music files. So I was wondering if I moved the complete Music folder to the Maxtor and delete the original folder from my computer, and from now on save all my music in the Maxtor, would that work? I'm afraid that if I delete my music files from my computer, they will also get deleted in the Maxtor backup.

Thank you so much!

PS. Probably not relevant.. But just in case, there are 14.8 GB of music files (compressed)

Exabyte

Music files won't get compressed.. the are MP3s, compressed WAV files.

You want to put your only copy of these files an an external drive ? ? ?

Why not bring your PC to any Big PC store and they can upgrade (clone) your drive to a bigger size (500GB or bigger).  Cloning will make an exact copy and you don't loose anything.  Boot the new drive and you'll have all this space left.  Just the old drive as a safety, keep it in the special wrapper the old drive came in.

Then.. you have your external drive to make a COPY of your important files.
