I want to instal the Maxtor 4 in a Windows Server, could I do that?

Can I find another software to use in a server?

I would doubt if you want to use the Maxtor software in a server situation. 

Even on XP or Vista, the Maxtor software can only backup your own My Documents, not others due to the design.

The Maxtor should be recognized, like any USB device.

Servers are in their own little world, you need servers software for everything, including server anti-virus.

Isn't here a backup utility (crude but it should work) in the Server. 

I had to by a special backup package, and just found out it's a yearly license fee for my school.

I had my network in a PC with a Windows XP, but I could buy a new server to have my information better and because my company is growing, but when I wanted to instal my Maxtor 4, the software told me that the Operative System couldn't work because is not the same, so my quesion is, Can I Install it on the server, or I need to by another Maxtor for a server operator system?

Have you just tried to put the Maxtor into the USB of the Server?

The software would never work.  But there is other stuff that might. 

If the Maxtor can be seen by Server 2000 or 2003, then you can use SHARE to access it.

AGAIN.. never put your only copy of software on an external drive.
If you have a server... get a second HD added.

You can use other software, Freebyte or Comodo to copy files to the Server SHARD folder.

If you are hard for space... get a bigger HD and clone it.  They come with software to do that.

THEN you keep a copy on the Server SHARE drive.

I actually use a Maxtor mini (120Gb) to backup all data, and take it home in my bookbag.   It runs off my PC but I have right to all folders.

Data is valueable... our severs are dual HD OS and RAID HDs (3)
