Impossible Win XP boot from Expansion portable drive

Hi,

I have installed windows XP on the USB Expansion portable drive (ST903204EXD101-RK), a 320GB disk. To do this I have set-up the bios to boot from the USB hard disk. The first step, copying system files, was done without problems. Then windows try to boot from the disk under installation to continue installation, but I get:

A DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED

PRESS CTRL+ALD+DEL TO RESTART

 

I have tryed on 2 laptop, with the same result. Why this happens and what can I do to install and boot an operating system on this disk?
