Keeping Expansion Drive on top of computer box

I have a new 500 GB Expansion External Drive (ST305004EXA101-RK). If I keep the external drive on top of my computer, will there be any damage to either the computer or external drive from magnetic or electrostatic discharge?

The only damage will be if the drive falls off. :-)
