Good morning.
I had to do a full system reset on my computer due to networking issues. Therefore, I lost all of my files on my hard drive. However, thanks to maxtor, I was able to restore my files using a maxtor external hard drive. I have to HD's. One is to back the computer up and one is to store my many files (100+ gigs of pictures and videos). I was having issues with my One touch four when I first got my vista computer. It denied me permission to access it, but thanks to google, I fixed that problem. Now that I have the computer back up and running, I seem to have that issue once again. When I try to get into the drive, it says I don't have permission to do so. So, it tells you to click on the security tab and add your username to the list. I did that and I now have permission to access the hd. When I click on a folder inside, the same message pops up. I do what it says and it gets me one folder deeper. I keep doing this until I reach my files. I could get into a folder with pictures by doing this, but I can't access the picture. Windows Picture Viewer tells me that I can't open it because I don't have permission to access the file location.
What do I do to get permission to access my pictures?
Am I overlooking something?
Thanks for your help,
Mike

Isn't there a setting that states "for this folder and all sub folders"
Do you have UAC on ?
1. Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> System Config
2. Continue through User Account Controls prompt
3. Select Tools -> Scroll down and select Disable UAC
4. Click Launch -> Reboot machine
Or try this link... this is why Vista was not welcomed by the Business / Education community. Stupid stuff like this.

I also found this:
In Windows Vista when you try to open certain folders you get "Access Denied" error. Windows gives this error because you don't have the ownership of the file by default instead the system has the ownership. So you are not allowed to open the folders.
Now in order to access the contents of these folders you need to take full ownership of them. To take the ownership follow these steps.
--- Right click on the folder you want to take ownership of then go to properties.
--- Now click on the Security tab and then click the Advanced button at the bottom.
--- Now again select the Owner tab in the next windows. There you will see the current owner and also other owners that can be assigned to that folder.
--- Now click on the Edit button. In the next windows that comes up select your usernamein the 'Change owner to' field. If you see the a box to check for: "Replace owner of subcontainers and objects" option then tick it.
--- Now click Apply and OK on all the dialog boxes that are open. That's it you have taken the ownership of all the contents of the that particular folder.
Sometimes you still get the Access Denied error to some folders within this folder. Just follow the same procedure to take the ownership of that folder also.
Now you can access all your files.

See DOS run. Run DOS run
See Windows crawl, crawl Windows, crawl
See Vista start... Vista .... what are you doing ? . . . stop that.
Vista, behave your self . . .
Vista, If I have to stop this car ! !
Vista, if you don't behave I'm going to call Windows 7 and you will be in big trouble !

I have a Maxtor 3200 USB Drive. My laptop with Vista sees it in device manager, it says it's working, yet when I click on it, this is the error I get:
F:\ is not accessible
Access is denied.
I tried the process you recommended and it still doesn't work. I have full control and still nothing!
Any ideas? Thanks!
