Mac/PC and expansion

ok i think im being completely stupid here but im really kinda stuck.... i bought a seagate expansion portable drive for my dad christmas, i have a mac book pro (with OS X) and my dad has a laptop (windows 7).... neither of these can see the drive

it does say 'plug-and -play' but its more like 'plug-and-play-around-with-the-internet-looking-for-a-way-to-use-it'

can anyone give me any advice to get it visible on either computer?

Re: Mac/PC and expansion

When i inittially purchased Seagate Expansion 320 GB it was fomatted for PC use. I then formatted it for MAC use.

I want to change it back to PC use, how do i do this?

in disk management the drive is showing however, there is no drive letter or file system showing in the display screen. When i click on the free space section just below the blue bar all the options are greyed out....... please help

Re: Mac/PC and expansion

You can try following these steps for formatting the drive from Disk Management:

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=220151

Should you still not be able to get to the various options, try formatting the drive with the DISKPART commmand. The instructions for this are provided in the lower portion of this knowledge base article:

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207837
