MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

[ Edited ]
This process takes almost 100% CPU whether or not my Maxtor One Touch Mini III is plugged in.  This is the 100GB USB model.   Maxtor firmware version is 03.6.4.   I'm on XP Professional SP2.

I have to manually kill the process to get control back.

What's the problem?

Do I need an update, a reload, or is there a patch for this?

Thanks for any pointers.

Re: MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

Hi,

Have you tried plugging the drive in to determine if the initial backup every completed?

Re: MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

The backup dialog indicates that it completes successfully each time.  There is no indication of any work still in progress except that the LED on the front keeps flashing periodically.

Re: MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

I have the same problem. Additional information: Windows XP SP2 Norton Internet Security 2007 1.7 Ghz pentium M processor 1.24 GB RAM This is my temporary workaround: I have changed the service to manual startup: Start -> Run -> Services.msc -> locate the service maxbackserviceint -> double click and set startup to manual. After doing a backup you might need to kill the process, but at least it does not start when you boot the system. Best regards, Murray

Re: MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

Murray, thanks for your advice.  I turned off the auto-start of that service.

I'm surprised Seagate hasn't come back with a fix for this problem.

Thanks,

Don

Hi HMLakes,

Thanks for your participation in the our forums so far.
As regards your last comment, please remember that this is an online community where many of the responses come from other users, such as yourself. The forum is not a replacement for Customer Service. Seagate representative do from time to time come to lend a hand answering posts but not necessarily on a continual or frequent basis. If you have immediate needs, your best bet is to contact Customer Service directly whether by phone, email, or chat.
Thanks.

Re: MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

I'm also getting the same issue. According to Add/Remove programs I am using version 1.00.0040, can anyone tell me if there is an update available for this software?

Re: MaxBackServiceInt hogs the CPU

It wouldn't hurt to uninstall the program and then redownload and reinstall it.
